May is Mental Health Month...Let's Clean!!
How can your mental health be improved with cleaning? Well, let's stop and think about this for a minute.
When you wake up in the morning and find a cluttered mess on the table, laundry all over the laundry room, and the bathroom hasn't been cleaned in a week; how do you feel? Probably not well.
So that's where we can talk about mental health and correlation it has with cleaning! Your mood is brighter when you make your bed first thing in the morning and when you wake up to a tidy house. The morning routine seems to go so much smoother and the kids even seem to be happier. But yes, we all can agree that after a long day, the last thing you want to do is do a pile of dishes and tidy the house but it feels better when it's done!
Did you know if you even clean for 20 minutes a day, you can reduce the impact that stress has on your life? Better yet! Vigorous cleaning (washing the floors for example) is an outlet for negative emotions thanks to the energy you burn while scrubbing away. It's kind of like throwing things when you're angry but try channeling that energy into productive cleaning.
May 4th-10th, 2020 is #MentalHealthWeek and the theme this year is 'social connection'. We've all been forced to socially distance inside our homes for over a month and those who have experienced many mental health obstacles are in need of a social connection. Please pick up the phone and call a friend who needs it, or call your family members.
Just because we are forced to socially distance does not mean we can't have a social connection.
